Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses

JU-01

A 4-day structured CPD-accredited training in Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis for Jimma University researchers, faculty, and postgraduate students, delivered under RevProHub's national cascaded training framework.

RevProHub, in collaboration with Jimma University, invites applications for a 4-day intensive training in Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (SR/MA). This cohort marks an important step in building institutional research capacity and establishing a self-sustaining community of evidence-synthesis practitioners at Jimma University. WHY THIS TRAINING MATTERS In Ethiopia, systematic review training has historically been fragmented—delivered without standardized curricula, harmonized materials, or formal CPD recognition. As a result, healthcare professionals and researchers across institutions receive inconsistent preparation in evidence synthesis, limiting their ability to produce, appraise, and apply high-quality synthesized evidence. To close this gap, RevProHub has developed a nationally aligned training package—including a participant manual, facilitator guide, and standardized slide deck—designed for cascaded delivery through Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This ensures that every cohort, regardless of institution or region, receives quality-assured, evidence-based training aligned with national CPD requirements. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN The curriculum follows the full systematic review workflow and combines theoretical grounding with hands-on practice: • Formulating policy-relevant and answerable review questions (PICO/PECO frameworks) • Designing comprehensive search strategies across major databases • Screening titles, abstracts, and full texts using structured criteria • Conducting critical appraisal and risk-of-bias assessment • Extracting data systematically and managing study characteristics • Performing meta-analysis and interpreting pooled effect estimates • Assessing heterogeneity, publication bias, and certainty of evidence (GRADE) • Reporting findings in line with PRISMA 2020 standards • Introduction to qualitative and mixed-methods evidence synthesis Participants will work through real datasets and their own self-initiated review topics, moving beyond simulation into practical, publication-ready analysis. FORMAT & ACCREDITATION The training is delivered over 4 consecutive days in a blended format (in-person sessions with virtual support where applicable). Successful completion earns CPD learning points, and participants who complete the practical component will be positioned to lead systematic reviews within their institutions. We particularly encourage applications from researchers and faculty members committed to initiating or mentoring SR/MA projects at Jimma University after the training.
